Battery Care & Safety Guide

Only use the original Shimano charger supplied with your eBike.

Only charge your battery in a dry area that’s fitted with a working smoke detector and ensure the area surrounding the eBike/battery is clear for at least one metre.

If possible, do not charge your battery unattended or overnight and if possible also use a surge protector. 

Switch on the charger after plugging it into the eBike/battery and disconnect the charger and the battery from the mains after charging.

If possible, do not completely empty your battery and preferably keep the charge level between 20 and 80%.

To prolong the battery life, you should avoid strong sunlight on your battery and park the eBike in the shade or in a cool room on hot summer days.

If you are not going to use your eBike for two months or longer, remove the battery pack from the eBike and store it with a charge level of around 60-70%. Store it in a well-ventilated room/garage with smoke detectors at an ambient temperature between 10-20deg Celsius. Re-charge it to around 60-70% every six months it is in storage. When you’re ready to use the eBike again, fully charge the battery first.

Handle your battery carefully and avoid direct impacts and shocks. If you damage your battery, or suspect it may be damaged, DO NOT use it and take it to an authorised Shimano service centre/bike shop for testing. 

Only clean your battery with a lightly-damp cloth if it is very dirty. To do this, remove the battery from the frame and disconnect it from the charger.

The best way to remove dust from the plug poles is to use a dry cloth. Lubricate with conductive carbon grease occasionally if necessary to improve electrical and thermal connections and provide protection from moisture and corrosion.

Do not direct water jets at your battery and do not use a high-pressure cleaner. This also applies to the other electrical components and all bearings and seals on your eBike.

Never attempt to repair or to open a battery. Only replace your battery with a compatible new Shimano battery from an authorised reseller.
